My dear friend Sydney left today to return to Africa for three more months. Last year she spent nine months there loving the street boys of Jeffrey’s Bay, South Africa. They became her boys. And it wrecked her life in every possible way. She loves them so. And I can’t blame her.
Our Father tells us to take delight in Him and He will give us the desires of our heart. And I have never seen it lived out so true in a life. For since I first met Sydney in the eighth grade, she has been taking delight in the Lord. Even in times of pain, she exhibits joy. She offers encouragement and love to those that are overlooked. But don’t get me wrong, Sydney is neither quiet nor subdued. Haha. She is so full of life and sass and love. And in all of this she follows the Lord and loves Him and seeks Him willing to give whatever He asks.
Psalm 37:4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires
Ahhh…In one sense it seems like forever ago that we were sitting there in Barnes in Noble—in the children’s’ section. I guess it wasn’t but three years ago now… “I want to go to Africa” she told me. “If it is the Lord’s will I would love to go to Africa.” I wanted to go to Mexico. God must have been laughing at us. We haven’t hardly been in the same place—er country for the last year and a half for more than a few short days if that. Yet it is amazing. To see all that God is doing through her excites me. He is spreading His light around the world. Now she is going back—leading a team to Swaziland for the next three months, sharing His love and brokenness and vision.
I couldn’t be more blessed to call her my friend. As she goes, please pray for her and her team—for freedom and protection for the team and the people they will meet. If you would like to read her blog, visit: http://sydneysample.myadventures.org/
